Gloria

Gloria is a Chilean film from director Sebastian Lelio and was Chile’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the upcoming Academy Awards. Paulina Garcia stars as Gloria, a 58 year old single woman who still feels young at heart and spends her nights at local dance clubs. It’s at one of these clubs where she meets Rodolfo and throws herself into their relationship thinking it could be her last chance at love.
Lelio wanted the audience to really connect with Gloria as she works through her emotions, and he felt the best way to do that would be by having Gloria in every scene, every shot, and every frame of the movie. “The film is exclusively and radically told from a single point of view: Gloria’s,” explains the director. “There isn’t a single scene that isn’t about how she’s feeling things and the world. Gloria plays a supporting role of sorts in the lives of those around her.”
