Global Affairs Canada says Canadian child dies at resort in Jamaica

Officials have confirmed that a Canadian child has died at a resort in Jamaica.

Global Affairs Canada told CHCH News it is aware of the death of a Canadian citizen in Jamaica.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the individuals’ loved ones,” the agency said in an emailed statement.

It added that consular officials are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the family.

No further information can be shared at this time for privacy reasons, the agency said.

Global Affairs Canada did not confirm when or where the incident happened, but online reports say it occurred on Feb. 3 at the Hotel Riu Palace Aquarelle in Trelawny, Jamaica.
