Gimme Shelter

No, it’s not a Rolling Stones documentary.

Gimme Shelter stars an almost unrecognizable Vanessa Hudgens as Apple, a troubled girl who runs away from her abusive mother June (Rosario Dawson). With nowhere to go, Apple tracks down her estranged father (Brendan Fraser), now a successful Wall Street broker, who lets her stay with him and his new family. Apple soon finds out that she’s pregnant, but when her father disagrees with her decision to keep the baby, she’s forced to leave. Apple eventually winds up in a home for young mothers where she learns what it feels like to finally have a real family.

In preparation for her role, Hudgens spent a short time living at shelter similar to the one her character ends up in. The film also stars James Earl Jones, the legendary actor whose voice you will recognize from The Lion King, Star Wars, and CNN. Not counting his current commercial campaign for Sprint, this is his first live action role since 2008’s Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.

Gimme Shelter is rated PG.
