Gilligan’s Island Star Dawn Wells Dead at 82

Dawn Wells, who played the wholesome Mary Ann on the 1960s sitcom Gilligan’s Island, has died. Her publicist says the cause of death was related to COVID-19.
Wells was born in Reno Nevada in 1938. She represented her home state in the 1959 Miss America pageant. Her early TV roles included Bonanza, 77 Sunset Strip and Maverick, before finding fame on Gilligan’s Island. The “three hour tour” aboard the SS Minnow turned into a three year run for the ensemble cast, from 1964 to 1967.
But the show gained even greater popularity in syndication throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and continues to air widely, including on CHCH-TV.
In addition to her acting career, Dawn Wells was also a teacher and a motivational speaker. She was 82 years old.
Wells appeared on Morning Live in May 2018. Click here to watch the full interview.
