Geoff Scott dead at 83

Geoff Scott, who was a former CHCH-TV Parliament Hill correspondent, has died after a short illness.

He passed away in Mississauga on Aug. 5.

The long-serving Hamilton-Wentworth MP studied journalism at Carleton University.

During his studies, he performed comedy shows in Ottawa with his best friend, Rich Little.

Scott became a household name as the parliamentary reporter for CHCH during the 1960s and 70s.

He then created Geoff Scott Communications, and became the first journalist to report news tailored to local markets from Ottawa and Parliament Hill.

Scott won a byelection in 1978 when he began serving as the Conservative MP for 15 years.
