Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a crash on Highway 403 in Hamilton that killed a motorcycle driver Friday night. OPP says speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the westbound lanes of Highway 403, to the west of Aberdeen Ave.

Police say the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Officers say a 42-year-old rider from Ancaster was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends have identified the rider to CHCH News as Paul Vasilak, a musician and hairstylist from Ancaster. Vasilak also worked for the City of Hamilton’s road department.

Vasilak’s mother Kathy Hulsman says she spoke with him before the crash. “He was coming home. We had plans the next day, to do things together. He was in a great mood and very excited for his future.”

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, Vasilak was not wearing a helmet and investigators are determining if the lack of helmet use were factors in the injuries sustained.
