Passengers frantically running and jumping out of the planes door running as fast as possible onto the tarmac and away from the fully engulfed jet. The airport said the plane, operated by Russian flagship carrier Aeroflot, caught fire when it made a hard emergency landing shortly after takeoff.

It was a hard enough landing that the engines may have caught fire. Officials said the aircraft had 73 passengers and five crew members on board. Investigators and the airport said the plane had taken off for the northern Russian city, but turned back because of unspecified problems.

The aftermath shows the tail end of the Aeroflot plane destroyed. Russian officials say 41 people are dead, that’s more than half of the people that were on board the flight.
