Forensic audit digs deeper into Niagara Parks books

After two audits this year found ‘inappropriate and unacceptable’ conduct at the Niagara Parks Commission, there’s word a more extensive forensic audit is now underway.

Online newspaper Bullet News Niagara says it has confirmation from the Ontario ministry of tourism, that an outside firm has been contracted to delve into specific projects at the commission — and that auditors have free reign to look at whatever areas they deem necessary, as far back as necessary.

Some of the projects under the microscope include Niagara’s Fury, Table Rock, Legends Golf Course and the Queenston Heights Restaurant.

Two audits released in July concluded there were significant issues with how expenses were paid, and that the commission too often awarded untendered contracts, including a 25 year lease to the Maid of the Mist boat company.
