Heavy rain and strong winds swept across much of Southern Ontario overnight Wednesday but the downpour did not cause severe flooding or any extensive damage.
In a special weather statement, Environment Canada had warned of rainfall between 20 to 40 millimeters, with the possibility of some areas getting 50 millimeters. That weather statement ended about 3:30 Thursday morning. Visibility was reduced for motorists during periods of heavy rain, especially around 1 am.
Although pooling was reported on area highways, no roads were closed due to flooding in Hamilton, Halton or Niagara.
