Flood watch issued for sections of Grand River, around Lake Erie

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has issued a flood watch for sections of the river and around Lake Erie.

Rainfall and melting ice over the next few days are expected to cause water levels to rise.

Beginning late Sunday morning, the GRCA says 30 to 40 millimetres of rain is expected to fall.

The Nith River Subwatershed is at risk of flood conditions, as well as sections of the Grand River downstream from the Dunnville Dam.

People who live along the Lake Erie shoreline are being warned to watch for flooding and strong winds over the coming days.

The conservation authority is advising the public to stay away from the lake and river shorelines as high flows and unstable ice conditions pose significant safety risks.
