Hamilton residents and surrounding areas are expected to start their week with the first heat event of the season.

Environment Canada says temperatures are expected to become hot and humid with highs of near 30 on Monday and low 30s on Tuesday.

Hamilton is expected to cool down Wednesday with a 60 per cent chance of rain.

Environment Canada is urging residents to stay hydrated, dress appropriately and spend time in cooler places, especially older adults, infants, young children and people with chronic illness.

The city has not declared an active heat warning yet. During an active heat warning, Hamilton opens 30 “cool places” for people to keep cool.
