First case of Monkeypox virus confirmed in Niagara Region

The first confirmed case of monkeypox has been reported in the Niagara Region.
Niagara Region Public Health said a resident tested positive, and it is working to identify at-risk contacts to help prevent the spread of the virus.
The health agency said eligible close contacts will be offered Imvamune vaccine, a third generation smallpox vaccine.
Niagara Region Public Health will be operating several monkeypox vaccine clinics for at-risk people from Aug. 2 to 4.
More information on those clinics will be shared later this week.
