Fire closes downtown Hamilton street

Hamilton fire crews were called to a midday house fire, just around the corner from CHCH studios.
Fire fighters arrived at Wesanford Place, where flames had engulfed the back of a two story house. It’s believed the fire started in a backyard shed, and quickly spread.
The blaze was quickly put out but the shed and its contents were destroyed, and siding on the house melted. The 39 year old home owner managed to escape, but not before trying to put out the fire himself.
There’s no word what sparked the blaze. The owner says the shed only contained a lawn mower and some garden supplies.
Caroline Street was closed for a couple of hours; it was reopened by late-afternoon.
