Fines issued for election robocalls
The Canadian Radio, Television and Telecommunications Commission has slapped hefty fines on four political parties, two MPs and a telemarketing firm.
The penalties were handed down for breaking robocall rules.
The federal and provincial Conservative parties, the federal NDP and Alberta’s Wildrose Alliance Political Association were fined for improper automated calls.
So was Liberal MP Marc Garneau and Conservative Blake Richards.
The CRTC issued almost $370,000 in penalties. Most parties have paid the fines; the federal Conservatives and Richards still haven’t. They have 30 days to hand over the cash.
