The Federal Competition Bureau is expected to take questions from reporters this morning following the release of the report from their airline market study.
The report calls on Ottawa to permit foreign-owned airlines to fly domestic routes to boost competition and lower consumer cost.
The federal watchdog is calling for up to 100 per cent ownership of airlines that fly domestic-only to open the door for increased competition with global airlines.
Competition improved between 2019 and 2023 with the arrival of Flair Airlines and the growth of Porter Airlines but that their positions remain fragile, the study found.
