The Federal Liberal government proposed holding a House of Commons debate Monday evening on the Middle East and its impact on Canadians abroad.

The Carney government put the proposal to opposition parties, while representatives for the NDP and Conservatives did not immediately comment.

The proposal follows criticism from some liberal MPs who say they are uneasy after Carney expressed support for the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran on Feb. 28.

Interim NDP leader Don Davies calls the government’s position “unprincipled and contradictory.”
