One man is dead after an afternoon house fire in Brantford. Crews were called to a home on Park Avenue at 2:30 where they discovered heavy smoke pouring from the small home.
It’s a sombre scene on Park Avenue in Brantford. At around 2:30 Friday afternoon, a neighbour in the area saw smoke coming from the back of the small house here. He ran to the doors, pounded on the doors, got no response but he could hear smoke alarms going off inside the home. He called 911 and fire crews responded. At that time, there didn’t seem to be a lot of flame or fire from the home at all. Firefighters broke down the doors and a thick wall of smoke came billowing out. The house was full of smoke at that point. There does not appear to be a lot of damage to the front exterior of the home. The back of the home is where the fire was located but fire officials haven’t been able to determine the ignition point or the cause of the fire.
When they entered the house, they found the body of a man in his late 30’s or early 40’s. He has not been officially identified yet. People, believed to be family members, have been on the scene. In fact, a few family members just left the scene, obviously very, very shaken by this development. The Ontario Fire Marshal is expected to arrive here within the next hour to look for the cause of the fire which is the standard practise with the loss of life. More details will become available as the investigation continues. But for now we know that the man was the sole occupant of the home, he is deceased and his name has not yet been released.
