Updated Three families are homeless after a million dollar fire destroyed a row of townhomes in the Golf Links and Stone Church Road area of Ancaster.

It comes at a time when the province is reviewing the role of sprinkler systems – specifically in seniors’ homes – after the death of an elderly couple in a retirement home fire near Ottawa last week. But as Cristina Tenaglia tells us there’s long been a push for legislation that requires sprinkler systems in homes. Right now the Ontario Building Code only requires sprinklers in new multi-residential buildings higher than three storeys, but townhouses are considered single family dwellings – so they’re exempt.
