Facebook plans to rebrand, change its name: report

Facebook is planning to rebrand itself with a new name, the Verge reported on Tuesday, citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter.
The company is expected to make an announcement next week.
According to the tech publication, Facebook wants the new name to reflect the company’s focus on building the “metaverse” that will combine virtual and augmented reality technologies in a new online realm.
The change is meant to signal the tech giant’s ambition to be known for more than social media.
Facebook also owns Instagram and WhatsApp.
The rebrand would likely position all three platforms under one brand, similar to the structure used by Google, which sits under parent company Alphabet.
The news comes as the social media giant faces increasing scrutiny by the United States government over its business practices.
Facebook has not commented on questions related to the name change.
