An extreme cold warning is in effect for Southern Ontario this weekend.

Environment Canada is cautioning residents as bitterly cold arctic air moves through the region.

Residents in Southern Ontario can expect a prolonged period of frigid wind chills making it feel like -35 to -40 degrees celsius.

The alert is expected to continue until Sunday.
