Extradition hearing for mom accused of kidnapping her children

There was an extradition hearing today for a mother accused of kidnapping her two sons from the UK and bringing them to Hamilton. Anisa Ibrahim was quite emotional in court today. Wiping tears as she sat in the prisoners box. She has now been taken into custody. The Somalian mother is accused of kidnapping her 2 sons, who are 10 and 8 years old from the UK five years ago. She was found living in Hamilton with her children under an assumed name.

After a five year investigation she was arrested back in August in downtown Hamilton.and has been out on bail. Today she surrendered and the next step is for the justice minister to decide if she will be sent back to the UK to face charges there. Her lawyer is asking to halt the extradition and if she is sent back that certain measures be put in place by the government to ensure her safety.

Her children are currently in the care of Children’s Aid.
