New Zealand: the home of sheep, Middle Earth, and apparently vampires. That’s according to Jemaine Clement, the co-director and star of the mockumentary What We Do In the Shadows. Clement, along with his friend and fellow comedic kiwi Taika Waititi, brought the film to TIFF last year where it picked up the Grolsch People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award. It’s been a hit with critics as well currently holding a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and now it’s getting a rolling release across Canada.

We sat down with Jemaine at TIFF where he told us about his character and how they improvised the script during production.
