Exclusive // J. K. Simmons

J. K. Simmons is the definition of a character actor; you know him from his countless supporting roles, but never see him really take the spotlight. But in Whiplash, Simmons is spectacular in his portrayal of the merciless jazz instructor Terrence Fletcher. His performance is so great that when he walked into our base of operations during TIFF, we were convinced he was going to chew us up and spit us out as he does to Miles Teller’s character Andrew Neyman over and over again in the film. Lucky for us, he is quite the opposite in person. Evan sat down with J. K. to find out what it was about the character that attracted him to the film in the first place.
