From documentary filmmaker Ryan Mullins comes Chameleon, a look at the life and tactics of undercover investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Through elaborate costumes and stunts Anas has been a revolutionary force in Ghana, bringing to light corruption, crime and injustice within his community.

Ghana’s most notorious journalist is more than just a reporter. He’s a crime fighter who uses his journalistic skills to bust corruption; a modern day folk hero who keeps his identity hidden from the public. Anas reveals a side of Africa rarely seen: tabloid journalism, high-tech surveillance and high-speed car chases. Filmmaker Ryan Mullins is there every step of the way with Anas, and goes beyond the pulp thriller to create a complex and revealing portrait.

Anas and Mullins spoke with us about why making the film was important despite the risk it posed to Anas’ anonymity. Chameleon will get a limited release in Toronto at the Carlton theatre on October 23 with a special sneak peek on Oct 22 at the Hot Docs theatre with Mullins in attendance.
