Director Alex Garland is making a splash with his feature film debut Ex Machina. The man is no stranger to science fiction having written screenplays for films like 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Dredd. Now he’s taken that experience and made what he calls an “ideas movie”, where the film is carried by the concepts it proposes and doesn’t rely on flashy effects and huge stars. (Though the effects, especially on Alicia Vikander’s sentient robot AVA, are very well done).

Evan got to talk with Garland about his film and the kind of discussion he hopes it brings about.
