Escarpment rescue

A woman is recovering after she fell over the edge of the escarpment in Hamilton.

Just before three this morning, emergency crews were called to Sam Lawrence Park in Hamilton.

They found a man and a woman, in their 20’s, about 8 metres down.

Officials say it looks like they were standing by a railing when the woman went over the edge.

Her boyfriend tried to rescue her but they couldn’t get back up on their own.

Crews brought the woman up in a basket and she was taken to hospital.

The man was pulled up with a rope.
