Environment Canada issues winter storm warning for Southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a “yellow” winter storm warning for the Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions.

The federal weather agency says anywhere from 15 to 30 cm of snow is expected to fall in the Halton region beginning Sunday morning through Sunday night.

The Hamilton and Niagara regions are expected to see 15 to 25 cm of snowfall throughout that same time period.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 km/h may result in blowing snow. Drivers are being advised that travel will likely be challenging as roads are expected to be difficult to navigate through the accumulating snow.

Around 12,000 flights have also been canceled throughout the U.S. as the major winter storm bears down across much of the country.

There are also multiple delays and cancellations at airports in our area ahead of the snow storm.

Toronto Pearson International Airport says it is closely monitoring the impact of the frigid temperatures on operations. Departing aircraft are moving through the central de-icing facility where de-icing operations are underway.

Meanwhile at Hamilton’s John C. Munro Airport, there are a few delays. If you are travelling, you are asked to check the status of your flight regularly.
