McMaster ran a test Tuesday morning to simulate what students could hear and see if their was a massive fire or even an active shooter and much like students on their first day of class, there’s a lot to learn for school security staff.

For the past six years on the first day of classes in each semester massive speakers and emergency stations sound the test alarms, text messages and notices on screens throughout the school are also shown. First years were informed about this test last week but the schools Facebook and Twitter page didn’t mention the test or have a link on what students should do in case of an emergency.

“About a week from now we will have all the reports from all the siren tests today and that will identify areas of improvement where we can enhance the level of communication that is getting out to our staff and students.” Glenn De Caire, director of security & parking.
