Elderly pedestrian dies after being struck by a vehicle crossing Main St. in Hamilton

Hamilton police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in central Hamilton on Saturday.

Officers were called to Main St. E and Tisdale St. just after 6 p.m.

They say an 80-year-old man was crossing the street “without the right of way at a crosswalk” when we was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound on Main St.

He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries early Sunday morning.

The 29-year-old driver remained at the scene. Police say they’ve ruled out driver speed, impairment and distraction.

Police are asking witnesses that haven’t yet spoken to detective to contact them at 905-546-4753.
