Elderly man dies from burn wounds after Waterdown fire

Hamilton police say a man in his 90s has died after receiving burns on 80 per cent of his body.
The elderly resident was taken to hospital with life-threatening burns following a fire inside of a home in Waterdown.
Emergency crews responded to the house on Niska Dr. shortly before 11 a.m. for reports of a person with severe burns.

The call began as a medical call but police and Hamilton fire were later called to the scene as well. A small fire had been extinguished before crews arrived but the house was filled with smoke.
Firefighters found the elderly man conscious with 80 per cent of his body burned.
While it appears to be accidental, the Hamilton Fire Department says the cause of the blaze in the living room and the reasoning behind the man’s burns are unknown at this time.
There is no damage to the outside of the home as a result of the fire.
