It turned out to be a happy ending, after a terrifying day for a group of Hamilton women vacationing in the Bahamas.

Eight women were on a boat that ran out of fuel at sea and spent over 24 hours stranded in the ocean.

It was supposed to be a relaxing, fun girls trip to celebrate Andrea Palmieri’s bachelorette party.

All was going well at the Riu Palace Paradise Island in Nassau Bahamas until some of the women in the group, decided to take up an offer to go by boat to Exuma Island, a popular tourist destination, where many go to swim with pigs.

The group of eight Hamilton women were approached on the beach by a representative from Paradise Water Sports, who sell excursions. They are not affiliated with the resort.

The women embarked on their journey on a small boat, Friday at 1pm. They said they would be back in time for dinner.

Around 3pm, the friends who stayed back received an alarming text message.

As night fell, local authorities were contacted, and began their search.

Friends started posting about the missing women on facebook, 28 hours later, the women were found.

The women and the crew of five men were rescued by fishermen. The group were given their $100 that they paid for the excursion back, and gave it to the men who saved them.
