The Dundas Catch the Ace charity jackpot continues to grow every week and one lucky person could win a progressive jackpot of over $618,000 Wednesday night, but only if they can catch the ace of spades.

The game has been going on for the last 30 weeks, which started back in May and the jackpot has been growing ever since.

It’s been a great way for the community to get involved and mingle, as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 36 in Dundas expects around 250 people to come out for the draw of this historic jackpot.

The legion is co-hosting the lottery with the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation.

“Truly, it is absolutely amazing,” said Sherri Johnston, the community engagement manager at the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation. “We are so energized, so inspired by how this community has rallied behind this initiative — never did we think that it would ever get this big and here we are at week 31 and guaranteed someone is going to win a lot of money tonight.”

Every week, people can buy tickets either online or in person, and select one of the 22 available numbered envelopes.

Inside of the envelope is a playing card, and if the ace of spades is in there, the player wins the entire jackpot, but if not they still get the weekly cash prize of an estimated $35,000 and the jackpot grows for another week.

Four ticket packages are available: Three for $10, 20 for $20, 100 for $50 and 300 for $75.

Weekly ticket sales are broken down with 50 per cent going toward charities, 30 per cent to the progressive jackpot and 20 per cent to the weekly prize.

“The money that is raised is supporting Margaret’s Place Hospice, St. Joseph’s Villa, all the programs and services that the Legion offers and so many more local non-profit organizations right here our community here in Dundas,” said Johnston.

Tickets can be purchased online at any time, but if you’d like to go in person, St. Joseph’s villa sells them, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

They can also be bought at the legion on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. before the lucky draw Wednesday night at 8 p.m.

Wednesday is also Dundas Blues night which includes live music and food, and people are encouraged to wear blue, or a hockey jersey.

All participants of the lottery must be 18-years-old or older, and located in Ontario at the time of purchasing a ticket.
