It may sound strange but driverless cars are on their way to Ontario roads. The provincial government announcing today that testing will begin January 1st, 2016. It is believed that they will save fuel and be much safer in the long run and that is why the province is trying to get out ahead of this wave.

“Ontario will be the first province in Canada that will permit the testing of automated vehicles on our roads and highways.” Said Steven Del Duca, Transportation minister.

The province is also pledging another $500 000 to the connected and automated vehicle program on top of $2.45 million already spent. Currently 4 states south of the border allow automated car testing, and 10 companies including Google, BMW, Nissan and Tesla are leading the charge.
