Donut winner announced

Tim Hortons was born in Hamilton, and so was the winner of Tims’ Duelling Donut competition.

Andrew Shepherd’s “Tortoise Torte” won the competition, beating out 63,000 entries, and the runner-up, the “Oreo Borealis”. The donut combines chocolate, caramel and pecans, and will be added to the menu.

A panel of judges, including actor Jason Priestley, narrowed down the pool of applicants to eight finalists. Priestley was recruited for the contest. After his cameo on the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother.” The episode joked about Tim Hortons, and Priestley talked about the invention of a donut in a fake documentary. Shepherd now lives in Scarborough.
