LATEST STORIES:
Don’t go chasing waterfalls

A lifestyle website has had to backtrack on a recently published article encouraging readers to not only visit some of Hamilton’s many waterfalls, but to go for a swim. As the city explains, such activities aren’t advised, even for Instagram.
For some, waterfalls are therapeutic, for others, a challenge for the best Instagram post.
Last week, the lifestyle site Narcity posted a list of 12 Ontario waterfalls to swim in. Along with some in Niagara, the Chedoke, Boundary and Princess Falls in Hamilton were included. The article has over 35,000 shares.
There’s no denying that these waterfalls are pretty, but you should keep your distance, according to the city of Hamilton, none of the waterfalls on the Narcity list are good for swimming.
Along with the dangerous terrain, the water itself is questionable.
Suddenly, these pictures aren’t so glamourous.
Regardless, with information at our fingertips, what were once hidden gems are now tourist attractions, and it poses a unique problem for the city.
The site has since changed the focus of the article to just waterfalls to visit, and also added a disclaimer to make sure the water is safe before swimming.
The city recommends checking out the waterfalls from their designated viewing areas. It’s not rebellious, but you’ll stay safe.
