Hamilton’s public access defibrillation program helped save a life over the weekend.

77 year old Donald Kolenko was at the Chedoke Twin Pad Arena watching his grandson’s game when he collapsed.

Two bystanders — who happened to be registered nurses — started CPR and attached an automated external defibrillator.

If used along with CPR, it is reported to increase a person’s chances of living from five to fifty percent.

A Bill has been put forward at Queen’s Park that would see automated defibrillators in all public buildings in Ontario.
