Police now say 17 people are confirmed dead in the seniors’ residence fire in Quebec.
Last Thursday, flames ripped through the home in L’isle-Verte. 15 others are still missing. The recovery effort is difficult with the frigid temperatures. Police and firefighters are using special machines that pump out hot air at 300 degrees celsius to melt the thick ice coating the structure. About 100 witnesses to the fire have been interviewed but no cause has been determined yet. A commemorative ceremony is planned in L’isle-Verte for Saturday. Prime Minister Harper will attend.
