Dark Places is a mystery drama, based on the novel of the same name by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, written and directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner (Sarah’s Key). The film stars Charlize Theron who leads a talented cast that includes, Nicholas Hoult, Chloë Grace Moretz, Tye Sheridan, Corey Stoll, and Christina Hendricks.
The sole survivor of a home invasion where she famously witnessed the death of her mother and sisters, Libby Day (Theron) lives with the knowledge that her testimony as a 7-year-old sentenced her brother, Ben (Stoll), to life in prison for the horrific crime. When a group of true- crime enthusiasts, The Kill Club, find Libby twenty-five years later and convince her to re- examine the events of that night, new memories and old suspects suddenly flood back into her life. As shocking information comes to light, Libby begins to question her own key testimony and sets out to discover the truth of her tragic past as the present collides with the things she thought she knew as being the truth…revealing another reality entirely.
This is the second adaptation of a Flynn’s work in the last year, coming off the heels of David Fincher’s Oscar nominated Gone Girl. Her first published book, Sharp Objects, is being adapted for television by Entertainment One Television, however no planned airdate has been announced.
