Customers and businesses stock piling alcohol amidst continuing LCBO labour talks

Negotiations between the LCBO and its workers continued today with the threat of a potential strike still looming with the upcoming Canada Day weekend.

CHCH caught up with local businesses and customers who’ve chosen to take the LCBO and its union up on their advice to stock up on alcohol. The store on Dundurn Street, along with many others, had extended weekend store hours to manage the influx of customers.

Though there was a rush, most people said they’re not convinced a strike will have an effect on consumers or businesses because there’s an onslaught of establishments that serve alcohol to choose from.

If the strike happens though, LCBO agency stores will still be able to sell liquor in the event of a strike. There are at least nine of those stores spread out in Hamilton, Halton and Niagara.

Meanwhile, because of a media blackout there’s no word on how the talks are going between the LCBO and the union.

If a solution isn’t reached by midnight workers will be in a legal strike position.
