CRTC asks Bell, Rogers for info on misrouted calls, overheard conversations in Niagara Region

Canada’s telecommunications and broadcast regulator, the CRTC, is demanding answers from Bell and Rogers after reports from customers in the Niagara region about misrouted phone calls and overheard conversations.
The City of Niagara Falls says that on July 25 its city hall phone lines experienced issues, including one-way audio and people hearing other conversations on the line.
The problem was affecting people using the Niagara Regional Broadband Network (NRBN).
At the time, NRBN said that calls over Bell and Rogers voice networks were impacted by the issue, which was affecting all providers — not just NRBN.
The problem was resolved later in the day.
The CRTC has given Bell and Rogers until Aug. 15 to provide a full accounting of what happened.
