Cross-border tragedy impacts Hamilton
A Hamilton woman is dead, and a mother and her baby are in hospital after a violent crash in upstate New York.
The early morning collision occured 15 miles south of Albany, on I87. Police say the minivan driven by Karen Clarke-Weller of Hamilton was hit head-on by a car driven by a 39 year old New York state man in the wrong lanes of the state thruway.
The crash killed Carol Barnes-Dion, 50, of Stoney Creek, and the American auto driver.
Weller and her four-month-old son were rushed to Albany Medical Center. There is no new information on their conditions, but police said at the time of the crash that the little boy was in serious condition.
Dion was born in Jamaica, but had been living in Canada for some time.
