Crews respond to early morning fire at Hamilton grocery store

Crews were called to a fire at a Hamilton grocery store early Friday morning.

It happened at the Giorgio’s No Frills on Main St. East near Tisdale St. South.

Hamilton fire says crews arrived to find “visible flames” coming from the store.

Firefighters entered the building through the back entrance and managed to extinguish the blaze.

No injuries have been reported.

Shortly after 8 a.m., smoke was still being cleared from the building.

Stan Double, Hamilton Fire Platoon Chief, said the Hamilton health department would be attending the scene to make sure the store is safe for customers to enter.

Double said food will also be checked to ensure it is safe for consumption.

An official cause has yet to be determined but Double says it is likely from an electrical issue.
