Crews on scene after structure fire in abandoned Hamilton nightclub

UPDATE: Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe says two firefighters sustained minor injuries. Cunliffe also says it’s too early to determine the cause of the fire. The Ontario Fire Marshall was informed and damages are estimated at around $1M.
EARLIER:
Firefighters are currently on scene of a structure fire at a former nightclub in Hamilton Monday morning.
Hamilton Fire Department Chief Dave Cunliffe says fire broke out on the second and third floors of the building on Hess St. around 8:30 a.m.
Second and third floors of the building are under control, however, the fire has spread into the attic, which is not under control yet.
Crews are currently tearing down the ceiling to gain access to the attic.

No injuries have been reported and there is no indication whether anyone was inside the nightclub at the time, as the building was barricaded and abandoned at the time of the fire.
Heavy smoke was visible blocks away from the scene. Cunliffe says it’s too early to tell if the Office of the Fire Marshal will be called in.
The estimates of the damage and the cause of fire have not been determined yet.
