Cottage travel ban revoked for long weekend

A health order issued to ban cottage travel to Ontario counties during the Covid-19 pandemic has been revoked.
The ban was lifted in time for the Victoria Day long weekend, allowing people to go to their cottages.
Although the ban is lifted Dr. Shanker Nesathurai, Medical Officer of Health for Haldimand and Norfolk counties still urges people to only travel if it’s necessary to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Social distancing measures are still in effect and crucial to protect the communities.
On April 23, Nesathurai issued the order to ban travel to Lake Erie’s waterfront communities.
He took the step in order to prevent the spread of the virus from burdening their communities’ healthcare systems.
Health care in these smaller communities have less infrastructure than the city and won’t be able to handle a surge in Covid-19 cases.
People who didn’t follow the order would face a fine of up to $5,000, preventing many people from visiting there cottages.
