The City of Hamilton is warning drivers to expect lane closures along a busy stretch of Main Street, which begins Monday until late September.

The lane closures will happen between Dundurn St. South to Victoria Ave. South.

Nothing is in place just yet as of Monday morning, but there’s going to be increasing construction and maintenance activities over the next coming weeks that will require the road closures.

City staff says crews will be rehabilitating the inside of the underground watermain to extend its lifespan and help prevent leaks.

A temporary above-ground watermain will be installed to maintain water service.

The city said the work is being done ahead of the Main Street two-way conversion project.

The plan moved ahead over safety concerns and fatalities along the stretch of road.

A city staff report previously said the conversion construction is slated to wrap up in 2028.

City officials say access to homes and businesses will be maintained, and emergency services will not be affected.

The six month lane closure might come as frustrating news to drivers, so pack your patience and take things slow in construction zones.
