The Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett are underway in the U.S.

Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee will make the case for or against her confirmation.

Republicans want Barrett confirmed before the presidential election.

Democrats say the winner of the presidential election should choose the nominee for the seat made vacant by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

It’s the same argument used by the Republicans when they prevented former president Barack Obama’s nomination of Judge Merrick Garland more than 200 days before the 2016 presidential election.
