Concussion is a sports drama written and directed by Peter Landesman (Parkland). The film premiered last month at AFI Fest and has generated some awards buzz for its leading actor Will Smith, including a Golden Globe nomination. The film also stars Alec Baldwin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Arliss Howard, Paul Reiser, Luke Wilson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, David Morse, and Albert Brooks.

Will Smith stars in Concussion, a dramatic thriller based on the incredible true David vs. Goliath story of American immigrant Dr. Bennet Omalu, the brilliant forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known.  Dr. Omalu’s emotional quest puts him at dangerous odds with one of the most powerful institutions in the world.

“At the center of this film is a man who was delivered a truth about a game that he had no connection to,” Smith says about his character. “But he had to deliver painful information to a group of people that he had a deep desire to be accepted by. For myself, in this process I don’t think about football – my focus is on Bennet and the pain and triumph of the story of an immigrant who came to America, suffered what he had to suffer, and ultimately was vindicated.”

Concussion is rated 14A.
