Part of an overpass was knocked onto Highway 403 at Wayne Gretzky Parkway in Brantford on Monday after a commercial vehicle hit the bridge. The westbound lanes of the highway were closed due to the crash.
Brantford police say this is the third time in a year the bridge has been hit.
The concrete slab that fell onto Highway 403 is called a ‘strike plate’ and police say it did exactly what it was designed to do.
Engineers are examining the damage to the bridge before deeming it safe to reopen.
Brantford police said no one was injured in the incident.
The road has since reopened.
