An exit ramp on Highway 407 in Burlington has reopened after a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon sent three people to hospital.
Ontario Provincial Police had briefly closed the access ramp in the area near Plains Road and Highway 403 after reporting that two vehicles had crashed at around 10:30 a.m.
Detectives say one vehicle had four occupants, none of which were reported injured.
Investigators say the second vehicle had five occupants, two of which were sent to a local hospital for minor injuries, and a 51-year-old man who was sitting in a rear seat was sent to a local trauma centre with serious, life-altering injuries.
Police say a lack of seatbelt use is being investigated as a contributing factor to the severity of the injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending.
Officers say all ramps in the area were reopened just before 4 p.m.
