Collection coin jar crook collared

A man has been charged after stealing a coin jar from the Canada Day festival in Thorold. In a strange series of events, the man took the jar from a children`s face painting booth and fled to a nearby porta-potty.

Several witnesses then tipped it over, but he was able to flee again to hide in some bushes, before being arrested.

Matthew Hammond, 33, of Thorold is charged with theft under $5,000.
